Advocacy Platform
The
platform approved by the Delegate Assembly reflects what school board members
believe is needed to position school boards to effectively govern school
systems capable of improving achievement for all students. While the entire
platform is an important statement about the needs of our state’s public
schools, the Delegate Assembly’s action to adopt priorities provides ASBSD with
clear direction on which elements of the platform school board members feel are
most urgent.

STANDING POSITIONS
Standing positions are extensions of ASBSD's core beliefs, providing long-term guidance to ASBSD's advocacy efforts. ASBSD invites member districts to suggest changes to the standing positions, but the power to approve standing positions rests with the ASBSD Delegate Assembly.
Each year, the ASBSD Delegate Assemblyadopts a slate of resolutions that guide ASBSD's advocacy efforts. ASBSD invites member districts to suggest new resolutions and amend existing resolutions.
ASBSD POLICY AND RESOLUTIONS COMMITTEE
The ASBSD Policy and Resolutions Committee is a core group of South Dakota school board members who develop strategy, policy statements and resolutions for consideration by the ASBSD Board of Directors and the ASBSD Delegate Assembly. The PRC plays a key role in the ASBSD Government Relations Plan by meeting throughout the year to help ASBSD act as a unifying voice for school boards and public education.
